WGL discusses role of "Distributed Impact" in enhancing national security

Government officials, embassy staff, the media and industry executives gathered in Washington, D.C. on Thursday to hear leaders across the energy, security, defense and technology sectors discuss innovative ways for securing America’s energy future.

The event opened with remarks from WGL Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Dr. Louis Hutchinson III, who spoke about “distributed impact” and how it enhances national security by bringing the source of energy production closer to the recipient while simultaneously incorporating multiple energy sources.

Dr. Hutchinson’s remarks were followed by a conversation between U.S. Deputy Energy Secretary Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall and Washington Post editorial author Stephen Stromberg.  Their discussion touched on Department of Energy investments in renewable energy and the increased risks of cyber attacks.

The event closed with a panel discussion moderated by Washington Post reporter Chris Mooney. The four-member panel also included Tony Clark of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Eurasia Group chief executive Robert “RJ” Johnston and David Owens of the Edison Electric Institute.  They addressed energy security topics ranging from weather, storage, technology and geopolitics.

The event was extremely active on social media, with tweets from industry, government, and the media.
