October Is National Energy Action Month
A national effort to underscore the role of energy in our prosperity, security and well-being

October is a time to enjoy the fall colors, football season, Halloween treats and other fun seasonal changes. October is also National Energy Action Month, a national effort to underscore energy’s central role in our prosperity, security and environmental well-being.

The idea of dedicating an entire month to energy conservation and sustainability began in September 1991, when President George H.W. Bush first declared October as National Energy Awareness Month. His intent was to raise awareness about the importance of sustainably managing the nation’s energy resources.

In commemoration of this year’s National Energy Action Month (formerly National Energy Awareness Month), the Obama Administration is asking Federal agencies to rededicate themselves to bolstering energy efficiency, investing in innovative clean power, and working together to preserve our planet for generations to come. Click here to view a list of resources recommended by the Federal Energy Management Program for raising awareness of energy- and water-saving possibilities and for supporting your agency's mission. WGL Energy Systems (WGL Energy) is also commemorating National Energy Action Month through its participation at these and several other customer events in October:
• NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland on October 6
• National Energy Marketers Association New England Energy Policy Summit in Boston October 12-14
• Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. on October 14
• Renewable Energy Markets Conference in Washington, D.C. October 18-20

Our experts will be on hand during these events to discuss renewable energy and energy efficiency technology solutions from WGL Energy and how we can help commercial and industrial customers, as well as government agencies, use energy more efficiently and cost effectively.

To help you commemorate this year’s National Energy Action Month, we’re providing our customers with a list of energy conservation tips to help you sustainably manage your energy resources. Click here to view ten energy conservation tips for commercial buildings.
