Renewable Energy Markets Conference Starts with Visit to Catholic University
Large-scale solar campus installation showcases WGL Energy’s leadership in solar power

The Renewable Energy Markets (REM) 2015 conference began with a visit to Catholic University on Sunday afternoon, home to the very first solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in the District of Columbia. While there, REM 2015 visitors were led on a tour of the large-scale solar campus installation by experts from WGL Energy and Standard Solar, who partnered with the University to make this installation possible.

Participants saw innovative features of rooftop arrays, a solar carport and electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations, while discussing the installation process and receiving answers to their questions.

The tour concluded with a discussion of the unique ways in which the University utilizes the solar array as an educational tool in the classroom, student design competitions and more.

While not a part of Sunday's tour, Catholic University is also home to a one-of-a-kind, innovative solar-powered picnic table. The table – equipped with outlets capable of powering laptops, mobile phones, e-books and other electronic devices – was the winning design in a contest sponsored by the University.

The REM 2015 conference continues through Tuesday, October 20. Follow the conversation on Twitter @REMconf or @WGLanswers with #REM2015 for the latest updates.
