First the Cold, Now the Snow
Winter weather increases the demand for energy efficiency (first of a two-part series)

Winter weather has arrived in the Mid-Atlantic, first with the Arctic cold we experienced during the past two weeks and, most recently, with this weekend’s historic blizzard.

Snow accumulations throughout the region set new records in many cities, including the snowiest on record in Baltimore with a snow total of 29.2" at BWI and the second snowiest on record in Northern Virginia, with a snow accumulation of 28.3" at Washington Dulles International Airport. The snowfall was high elsewhere in the Mid-Atlantic, too, with accumulations of 28.6" in Harrisburg and 22.3" in Philadelphia. Residents of the region were largely confined to their homes for much of the past weekend, as gusty winds and freezing temperatures blanketed the area while snow removal crews worked to clear area roads.

Winter is in full gear and now is a great time to review your energy spend. If your organization is looking to use energy more efficiently and save money this winter, the Energy Management Platform from WGL Energy can help.

Our Energy Management Platform (EMP) is a free online tool for our government, commercial and industrial customers. If you are an electricity or natural gas customer, it was designed to help you manage your electricity and natural gas usage, and built to empower you with energy efficiency recommendations that can help save you money.

The EMP displays your actual energy usage and cost data, allows you to compare this data over time and helps you to understand how factors, such as our winter weather, can impact your usage. With these insights and advanced metrics, you can better manage your energy budget, benchmark against industry standards and obtain an Energy Star score for your sites. The tool’s easy-to-use data analysis capability can be used to prioritize and set objectives, driving energy efficiencies across your facilities.

For more information on the Energy Management Platform from WGL Energy, contact your Account Manager or call us at 1-844-EMP-4WGL (1-844-367-4945).
