WGL Volunteers Get Ready for Annual Day of Weatherization
Fourth annual Day of Weatherization aims to help residents prepare for winter

WGL volunteers are getting ready for the company’s fourth annual Day of Weatherization event, which will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

WGL's Day of Weatherization prepares homes of low-income and elderly residents for winter. Hundreds of employees, including company leadership, annually volunteer to weatherize scores of Washington, D.C., area homes. To date, more than 580 homes have received assistance from WGL during the annual event.

The Day of Weatherization is a company-wide event, with volunteers participating from Washington Gas, WGL Energy (WGL Energy Services and WGL Energy Systems), Hampshire Gas and WGL Midstream. It is also WGL's largest annual single-day employee volunteer event.

During the event, volunteers will perform simple home improvement tasks to help homeowners manage energy costs and to stay safe, warm and dry when winter weather arrives.

These tasks include:
• Changing furnace/air filters
• Caulking around doors and windows
• Installing weather strips on doors
• Covering windows with heavy-duty, clear plastic
• Installing foam gaskets behind outlet and switch plates

For updates on the day’s activities, follow the conversation on Twitter @wglenergy or @WGLanswers, under #DayofWeatherization and #EnergyAnswers.
