Winterize Your Building to Reduce Your Heating Bill
Tips for helping our commercial customers save energy this winter

We discussed home winterization in a previous issue; now we’re focusing on weatherization for our commercial customers. Space heating demand and potential spikes in energy prices increase as the winter approaches. We have compiled a list of energy saving tips to help you reduce your business’ heating bill this winter.

Identify Areas of Improvement
• Hire a professional or conduct your own energy audit to identify areas of improvement and potential cost savings.

Adjust your thermostat
• Set your thermostat back during non-office hours.
• Switch to programmable thermostats to control temperature automatically and save energy.

Reduce Air Leaks
• Apply air sealing material (caulk, gasket, foam, weatherstripping, etc.) around doors and windows.
• Add door sweeps to the bottom of your doors to avoid under-door drafts.
• Check your duct system for leaks.

Maintain your Heating System
• Clean the evaporator and condenser coils on heat pumps.
• Regularly change or clean HVAC filters every month during peak heating season.
• Conduct annual maintenance for your HVAC system.

Understand your Energy Consumption
• Track and analyze energy consumption using a tool like The Energy Management Platform (EMP) from WGL Energy. Understanding your property’s energy usage can help reduce energy consumption and operating expenses.

Lock in a Fixed Price Energy Supply Plan
• Avoid price spikes this winter by locking in a fixed price plan with us.
