Colder-than-normal temperatures lead to higher demand for heating

According to the October 2017 U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) Winter Fuels Outlook, most U.S. households can expect higher heating bills this winter (October through March) than the last two winters. The expected increase in winter heating bills is likely to be the result of both higher heating demand because of relatively colder weather and, to a lesser extent, higher fuel prices.

In fact, on January 5, 2018, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that “much colder-than-normal temperatures across much of the United States have led to increased demand for heating, much of which is provided by natural gas."1 The EIA also reported higher prices in natural gas and electricity markets during the week ending January 5, as a result of the increased demand.

For a limited time only, new WGL Energy residential customers in the District of Columbia, as well as portions of Maryland and Virginia, can choose either a one- or two-year fixed price for your natural gas supply and avoid the worry that comes with colder temperatures, increased heating demand and changing natural gas prices. You can set your home thermostat to a comfortable temperature and get the peace of mind that comes with a stable price.

Residential customers outside these areas can contact our Customer Care Center at 1.844.427.5945 for information regarding your specific natural gas utility.

WGL Energy is a WGL Holdings, Inc. company and serves over 79,000 residential natural gas customers in the greater metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Once enrolled, your utility will continue to provide natural gas to your home, along with emergency and other services. There is no cost to enroll with WGL Energy.

Act now because this special offer expires on January 31, 2018. This offer is for new customers only.
