Greening Pennsylvania through Innovative Energy Solutions
From wind power to carbon offsets, WGL Energy's full spectrum of energy solutions is helping to green communities, businesses and universities throughout Pennsylvania

WGL Energy (WGL Energy Services, Inc. and WGL Energy Systems, Inc.) is committed to helping our customers find the right renewable energy solutions to reduce their environmental impact and benefit the communities they serve. Although WGL Energy provides power to over 110,000 customers nationwide, this week we’re placing our spotlight on Pennsylvania to showcase how WGL Energy is taking strides towards greater sustainability from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia.

Since 2013, when PA WindPower from WGL Energy first became available to households and businesses located in Pennsylvania, 25% of the wind power used by WGL Energy wind customers in Pennsylvania has been sourced from local wind farms in the commonwealth. Our Green-e Energy certified PA WindPower offer has allowed Pennsylvanians to use electricity sourced from 100 percent home-grown wind power.

PA Carbon Offsets from WGL Energy is another sustainable energy product available to businesses and households in Pennsylvania. The carbon offsets are independently verified and sourced from current, ongoing activities such as landfill gas capture and destruction projects throughout Pennsylvania. They include investments in new clean air and water projects like tree plantings through our partnership with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC).

In addition to sustainable energy products, WGL Energy Services, Inc. has donated 1,649 carbon offsets to green or counterbalance the greenhouse gas emissions from events in Pennsylvania, equivalent to planting 42,736 trees, grown for 10 years.

Currently, WGL Energy Systems, Inc. is developing a 3.9 MW DC ground-mounted solar array that will supply 30 percent of Susquehanna University’s electricity needs. It is the most extensive university-sponsored solar array in Pennsylvania.

WGL Energy is proud of our commitment to Pennsylvania and is extending our offering of diverse and innovative energy solutions to commercial, industrial and government customers throughout the commonwealth. Watch our video to learn more:
