Energy Efficiency: A Critical Step Towards Security and Resiliency

Energy efficiency is an integral part of a comprehensive energy plan, not only making an operation more cost efficient and sustainable, but also providing a critical step towards building security and resiliency.

Frequent occurrences of extreme weather that result in grid power outages can leave organizations open to operational disruptions as well as potential security breaches. Federal and state energy policy experts have set goals to shield the regional electric grid and other critical energy infrastructure from cyberattacks

An energy efficiency audit identifies key vulnerabilities of a facility, including aging or inadequate infrastructures, which can compromise security and lead to extended downtime during power outages. A thorough feasibility study assesses the condition of primary energy infrastructure, emergency backup systems, data acquisition and control systems, etc. and provides recommendations for corrective measures.

Over the past three decades, WGL Energy Systems (WGL Energy) has successfully implemented more than a thousand energy efficiency projects. We offer a full range of energy efficiency services and solutions that span all technology categories as defined by the Department of Energy. During the initial phase of the project, we investigate the feasibility of energy efficiency improvements across each technology category to maximize the infrastructure renewal opportunities and to identify potential savings opportunities.
