Clean Energy Progress Over the Last Decade
Clean energy technologies have become core features of Americas energy landscape

According to a recent report by Frontier Group and Environment American Research & Policy Center, the United States has made rapid progress in adopting clean, renewable energy over the past decade and with continued progress, may be able to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.

Ten years ago, clean energy technologies such as solar generation and electric vehicles were limited to niche markets or perceived as too costly for the average American consumer. Today the nation’s adoption of these technologies has grown exponentially. From 2008 to 2017, national solar power generation increased 300 percent and wind turbine produced power increased 360 percent.1 Meanwhile, national energy consumption dropped by just over one percent despite a growing population and economy.

If the United States continues to make progress towards clean, renewable energy, dependence on fossil fuels may eventually end. If renewable energy grows by 14 percent per year, wind and solar power alone will produce enough electricity to meet national electricity needs by 2035.

WGL Energy Services (WGL Energy) offers a variety of renewable power solutions for residential customers who want to protect the environment.
