Clean Energy Is On the Rise
2018 report shows renewable energy is surging

Renewable energy is surging as part of the United States power mix, according to the latest Sustainable Energy in America Factbook by Bloomberg.

While natural gas remains the primary source of power generation in the U.S., the study found that power from renewable sources has very much become part of the mainstream. Last year, 18% of all electricity in the U.S. was produced by renewable sources including solar, wind and hydroelectric dams, which is double from a decade ago.

These energy trends are contributing to economic competitiveness, generating jobs and cleaner air. The deployment of energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy in 2017 resulted in economic benefits without increases in greenhouse gas emissions or energy consumption. In fact, greenhouse gas emissions from power generation have declined and so has consumer spending on power. In the past decade, GDP has increased by 15 percent while energy consumption decreased by two percent.

The shift to a clean energy economy requires focus and effort from everyone – from corporate, to policy to industry. WGL Energy Services (WGL Energy) offers a variety of renewable power and carbon reduction solutions, including wind power and solar, that can help residential and commercial customers support the clean energy economy. Together with cutting-edge technologies, innovation and collaboration, we can keep clean energy objectives and targets on track.
