Energy Management Solutions for the Hospitality Industry
How to get your hotel prepared for the Spring and Summer seasons

According to Energy Star, the hospitality industry spends over $7.5 billion on energy each year. A reduction in energy usage by 10 percent across the industry could save over $700 million dollars and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6 million tons. Spring is a great time to review your hotel’s energy strategy and make any necessary adjustments.

Here are three tips to get your hotel ready for the Spring and Summer seasons.

  1. Review your energy management plan – You could be spending more for your energy solutions than necessary. Spring is a great time to review your energy usage and see where you are with achieving your sustainability goals for the year. Retail energy suppliers oftentimes can offer you plans that could optimize your energy budget.
  2. Consider energy efficient lighting – Utilize daylight and occupancy sensors and low-energy lighting wherever possible to reduce energy consumption. For example, replacing fluorescent lighting tubes with LED lamps can reduce lighting energy consumption and extend the life of your light bulbs.
  3. Book rooms with efficiency – Reserve rooms in groups to boost overall energy efficiency of your hotel, preferably starting with lower level floors. Corner rooms and upper floors are more energy intensive for heating and cooling, so book those last.
