Where's Winter?
Weekly review for February 2 - February 8, 2020
On Thursday, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that working gas in storage as of Friday Jan 31, 2020 was 2,609 BCF. This was a decrease of 137 BCF from the previous week. Inventories are now 615 BCF higher than last year at this time, 199 BCF above the 5-year average.
It’s has been unseasonably warm and we are on track for one of the warmest January-February on record.  However, the near-term warmth has been in the forecasts for some time so it did not drive prices down further this week. For the week, PJM Western Hub 12 Month curve (Mar20-Feb21) was up 0.2% and the NYMEX natural gas 12-month curve was up 0.3%. However both power and gas remain near 5-year lows for all forward terms.
