Lower Demand and Supply
Weekly review for April 12 - April 18, 2020

On Thursday, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that working gas in storage as of Friday April 10, 2020, was 2,097 BCF.  This was an increase of 73 BCF from the previous week. Inventories are now 876 BCF higher than last year at this time, 370 BCF above the 5-year average.  EIA also reported that the heating season saw the lowest net withdrawal since 2015.  This was not surprising given the increases in production and the relatively mild winter (e.g. at DCA we saw the 5th warmest Nov-Mar and 2nd warmest Jan-Mar on record).

Gas production expectations, with domestic production likely to decrease along with lower oil production, have also been moving the market which were relatively tame this week, but up sharply this month.  This week the NYMEX natural gas 12-month curve was down just 0.3%.  For the week, PJM Western Hub 12 Month curve (Apr20-Mar21) was flat.
