Philadelphia's ENERGY STARŪ Reporting Deadline Is Approaching
WGL Energy makes it easy for commercial customers to meet the benchmarking reporting requirement

In June 2012, the Philadelphia City Council passed energy benchmarking and disclosure legislation requiring all 50,000 square feet or larger commercial buildings to use the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager tool when reporting their annual energy and water usage to the City of Philadelphia, beginning with 2012 data. The reporting deadline for submitting calendar year 2017 energy and water usage data is June 30, 2018.

The median ENERGY STAR® Score in Philadelphia is 63, a full 13 points above the national median.

As you may know, Portfolio Manager is an online tool for tracking energy and water consumption, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Portfolio Manager is the industry-leading benchmarking tool and is currently used by 40% of the U.S. commercial building space.

Your WGL Energy Services (WGL Energy) team is helping its customers with energy efficiency initiatives like this and is positioned to do its part in securing Philadelphia’s future as the next global energy hub, while simultaneously meeting the current demands of the area with our full spectrum of energy solutions.

In particular, if you are a commercial building owner or property managers in Philadelphia, you can save energy and money with automated Portfolio Manager benchmarking. WGL Energy commercial customers are entitled to free, online access to our Energy Management Platform (EMP), which makes benchmarking easy with the automated data transfer of both your electricity and natural gas directly into Portfolio Manager. Once a building’s EMP account is linked with Portfolio Manager, its energy usage data is automatically uploaded on a monthly basis.

We’re excited about the strides the city of Philadelphia is taking towards energy efficiency and look forward to serving our commercial customers and fellow members of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, both with their energy reporting and in the development of holistic energy management strategies for their businesses.
